History will be made in Conception Bay South as the CBS Kiwanis Minor Baseball Association prepares to host the first-ever all-female provincial baseball tournament in the town.
The Newfoundland and Labrador 12U A Provincials will take place from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1, 2024, at the Kiwanis Field in , marking a pivotal moment for female sports in the community.
This milestone event will see teams of dedicated young female athletes, ages 12 and under, competing for provincial gold. These girls have been training tirelessly all summer, participating in the all-girls Metro league, ‘A League of Their Own.’ The CBS Raiders are eager to showcase their skills and share their passion for the game with the community.
“It’s more than just a tournament,” says Steve Bartlett, head coach of the CBS Raiders. “This weekend is a celebration of progress in female sports. It’s an opportunity for these girls to show what they’ve been working so hard to achieve and to inspire the next generation of female athletes.”
The tournament kicks off Friday, Aug. 30, with the CBS Raiders taking to the field at 10:30 am at Kiwanis Field. Games will continue throughout the weekend, with the Raiders also scheduled to play at 5:30 pm on Friday and 12:30 pm and 5:30 pm on Saturday.
Fans can expect an exciting atmosphere filled with skilled plays, determined athletes, and an uplifting amount of spirit.
This event is a significant step forward for girls’ sports in the region. Female baseball is rapidly growing in Newfoundland and Labrador, and the CBS Raiders’ efforts highlight the importance of creating spaces where young girls can develop their talents and build confidence on and off the field.
